Seattle PM Job Posting Trends - August Print E-mail

August 2010

Nothing much to report for August, with the numbers about exactly even with July.    The numbers are actually better than they look as multiple positions were open for the same job title on many occassions during the month, especially at Microsoft.   We don't track these as multiple job listings.

PM-Job-Trends-Aug-2010

Both Microsoft and Amazon came on with their strongest job postings in over quarter.   Microsoft posted 28 new jobs and Amazon 14.

Because of their strength, our Company Diversity Index dropped back to it's normal levels after the bump in July.     The intent of this metric is to track the relative diversity of  the pool of companies posting and for this month, Microsoft and Amazon accounted for nearly half of all of the new jobs, not counting agencies who may also be recruiting for them.

About our postings:

Product Management jobs include the titles Product Manager, Product Marketing Manager, and a few Segment or Category Managers.    Jobs could be full time hires or shorter term contract.

The New Jobs Posted line indicates the number of new postings in any given month.   Jobs Closed indicates the number of postings removed.   It’s hard to say that these were actually hires, as they could also have just been closed with no hiring.   The Month Ending Inventory is the total number of open postings on the site at the end of the month.
