As Director, Mobile Web you will build and lead a worldwide cross functional team (including software development, product management, and operations) focused on defining and building new features and experiences for Amazon's mobile websites as well as building new ones as you see new opportunities.  You will be responsible for the overall vision, product strategy, software architecture, roadmap, and resulting business.  You will play a key role in developing and communicating the strategy and vision for the mobile group worldwide.  A successful candidate will be highly analytical, able to work extremely effectively with cross-functional peers, and adept at synthesizing a variety of technologies and capabilities into high quality, simple products and applications that delight customers.  As an experienced leader, you’re expected to roll up your sleeves and directly take on challenging technical and customer experience assignments, and play a key role in partner negotiations and integration with other Amazon teams.  Because you will be leading both the business and technical side of a very strategic and important business for Amazon, you will need to have experience in working closely with engineers, product managers and UI designers and building world class customer experiences.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments; Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team
  • Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach
  • Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management
  • Lead the development of the product strategy and vision supported by internal data and external analysis
  • Work closely with a team of UI and visual designers to develop world class customer experiences
  • Create buy-in for the product vision both internally and with key partners
  • Define creative, high quality, simple product requirements and roadmaps based on product strategy
  • Manage prioritization and trade-offs among customer experience, performance and operational support requirements
  • Work closely with engineering teams, design, and program management in an agile environment to deliver products to market.  Manage delivery of current products concurrently with future product planning.
  • Stay current and report on industry trends, including new opportunities, competitor capabilities, etc.
  • Drive product launches including working with public relations, executives, and other team members
  • Proactively identify and resolve strategic issues that may impair the team’s ability to meet strategic, financial, and technical goals
  • Recruit and develop top-tier talent

Basic Qualifications
  • 10+ years work experience in related positions with increasing responsibility
  • 5+ years of work experience in mass market consumer electronics / software / wireless / Internet product management
  • 4+ years leading teams
  • Experience managing multi-functional teams of at least 10 individuals, including managers.
  • Experience identifying and hiring world-class talent.  Experience mentoring and coaching others to improved performance.
  • BA/BS required


Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Business or Computer Sciences
  • Experience in building smartphone or tablet applications
  • Experience in leading international teams
  • Proven ability to launch consumer focused experiences that are used and loved by millions of customers
