Job Summary:
Manages projects, initiatives, guidelines and procedures for product line in order to meet Strategic Business Unit (SBU) objectives and profitability goals. Accountable for the overall market and service development efforts including strategy, competition and market analysis, pricing and profitability, operations improvement, service delivery, and agency relations.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for top line growth and profit for Personal Lines or Commercial Lines products in assigned states.  Supports Regional Company profit and loss accountability for Commercial Lines.

  • Supports most aspects of state product pricing, presenting to pricing committee, filing and implementation of state product changes depending on product line.

  • Knowledge of most aspects of product pricing.

  • May need guidance from more senior product managers with complex situations.

  • Aligned to states smaller in size with reasonable complexity.  Identification, resolution, and implementation of solutions to day-to-day state product issues.  Coordinates activities and communications with aligned Regional Company oversight.

  • Ensures that all functional units provide input concerning performance of product in a state.

  • Depending on product line develops or supports the development of state profit and growth plans and associated action plans.

  • Acts as a liaison between the product department and other major functional areas (Claims, Service, Sales, U/W)

  • Works on special projects as required.

  • May mentor other product staff in the areas of technical pricing expertise, inter-department relationships and business acumen.




Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of progressively more responsible related work.

  • A working knowledge of both pricing and underwriting and a deep expertise in at least one required.

  • Presentation Skills: Must be comfortable presenting to agents, regulators, agency groups, partner departments, and to senior leadership in the organization.

  • Demonstrated achievement with strong quantitative background.

  • Bachelors or Master's degree in Math, Economics, Business, Finance, or Statistics is preferable.

  • Proven successful Product Management experience including pricing and/or underwriting work.

  • Technical insurance pricing expertise, with the ability to incorporate into effective business decisions the full breadth of pricing tools and concepts including rate indications, variable and fixed expenses and ratios, profit loads, trend, loss development, frequency, severity, budgetary loss ratio, credibility, relativity analysis, and overall rate change calculations.

  • Excellent analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to make and execute data-driven decisions.

  • Ability to represent company interests to regulators, legislators, independent distributors and the public.

  • Builds and fosters constructive and effective relationships with business partners from every part of the organization while collaborating with others to achieve results.

  • Previous strategic experience.
