As we continue to grow our business, we are constantly looking for ways to help serve our customers with innovative offerings that fundamentally change the way people build, deploy, and manage AWS cloud applications.

 

We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to join the Messaging services team. This is the team responsible for the Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS) and the Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS). Amazon SQS is a distributed messaging system that provides applications with a highly scalable and reliable web service to send and receive messages from the cloud.  Amazon SNS is a web service that makes it easy to set up, operate, and send notifications from the cloud to other applications, end-users, and devices.

 

We are now embarking on adding the next wave of functionality for cutting-edge messaging and communication capabilities. We are seeking a product manager with experience in internet-scale distributed messaging systems and a focus on engineering and operational excellence to help us grow this business from an early stage to lead in cloud notifications and messaging. The right person will have strong experience in defining and delivering on broad product roadmaps to champion solutions focused on developer needs. Responsibilities will include feature development and prioritization of the product functionality, ownership of the business model, customer segmentation, pricing, and demand generation for the new product.  As a member of the team, you will work with management and engineering leads to set strategy, define the product, and make the hard, high-judgment trade-offs between features and speed-to-market.

 

The role would also require working with customers, sales and business development, engineering teams and partners to develop the product strategy and roadmap, define technical specifications and lead cross-functional efforts from design through delivery. Managing the timelines for all associated software and services, supporting the launch of new releases and being involved with marketing the product and regular communication with senior management on status, risks, etc. are key elements of this position. As a Product Manager, you will be equally comfortable with digging into business requirements with customers as drilling into customer experience, architecture and design with the development teams. You have strong leadership qualities, prioritize well, communicate clearly and understand how to drive a high level of focus and excellence around service delivery. Experience with large scale, distributed web services-based applications and messaging platforms as well as knowledge of existing and emerging Internet communication technologies/transports/protocols will be very applicable and helpful.

 

Key responsibilities:

• Directing the product vision and strategy through market research, customer feedback and competitive analysis; developing requirements and use cases to drive technical decisions.

• Jointly owning the service roadmap and working closely with business leaders to prioritize the right projects for achieving our objectives taking into account elements such as business needs, product features, expansion plans and service performance.

• Working with engineering, management and other stakeholders to coordinate the technical development effort, identify interdependencies between concurrent projects, drive the project and being involved with readiness planning.

 

• Coordinating operations reporting including working with business and technology teams to define goals/metrics/reports, reviewing the operational health of the service and institute policy changes as needed.

• Evangelizing the product/service within and outside Amazon to encourage a fast and smooth adoption of AWS messaging services through demos, customer/technical collateral, whitepapers, etc. A track record of successful collaboration with sales, business development, technology evangelism as well as partner management functions is key achieving our ambitious goals in this space.

• Communicating with customers and senior executives about product direction, adoption, strategy and upcoming launches.

Educational Requirements

Bachelors degree required (preferably in Computer Science or similar engineering field), and a Masters of Business Administration preferred.
