Amazon Elastic MapReduce enables businesses, researchers, data analysts, and developers to easily and cost-effectively perform analytics on vast amounts of data on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform. It utilizes a hosted Hadoop framework running on the web-scale infrastructure of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3).
The Amazon Elastic MapReduce team is growing rapidly, and is seeking a product manager with strong product and program management experience in platform level products or services. This leader will define and drive the product strategy and roadmap that will help us scale this business as the leading cloud computing provider in customer satisfaction, operational performance and market segment share. Responsibilities include large-scale projects and initiatives to further grow the business in current and adjacent markets. This is a highly visible position that will interact at all levels of the AWS and Amazon.com business.
Key Strategic Objectives:
- Provide highly elastic, completely user controlled analytics platform in the cloud that is reliable, secure, easty-to-use and inexpensive. Our customers are broadly based and heterogeneous in their needs, and as an Internet-facing service we expect Amazon Elastic MapReduce to expand to a massive scale seldom seen in systems.
- Drive broad adoption and provide unparalleled customer experience. Develop a strategic and tactical plan that drives additional awareness, trial, adoption, and repeat usage of Amazon Elastic MapReduce. Among the mechanisms this leader should evaluate and be comfortable with include feature development, pricing changes, various marketing channels (i.e. Public Relations, Developer Evangelism, Promotions, etc.), customer surveys and profiling, partner management, sample application, code samples, and technical documentation, development, etc.
- Lead the organization through change, evolution, and sustained growth. The right leader will evolve and scale the organization along with the business. They will lead by example, being just as passionate about operational performance and predictability as they are about all other aspects of the customer experience. With the business growing this rapidly, this leader will not have the luxury of having tunnel-vision for any one area; rather, this individual will need to exhibit excellent judgment on how to prioritize between focusing on existing versus new customers and between features, architectural improvements and operational excellence.
